YLI National Program

The Young Leaders for Indonesia was launched in 2008 and continues today under the name of YLI National Program. Since its inception, the National program has developed a pool of 1.000+ top talents. YLI National is an annual program conducted with top Indonesian students chosen to participate through a rigorous selection process. The program’s participants are represented by ~50 universities from across Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia.

Over the course of the six-month program, the YLI National participants attended the three forums with three different themes:

  1. Lead Self
  2. Lead Team
  3. Lead Change

In between forums, participants are engaged with assignments such as:

Personal Leaders Project

An assignment that is given to participants to challenge themselves by planning, developing, managing, and evaluating their own initiatives, as well as to encourage them in creating impacts within society. This is an individual-based project where they have the opportunity to apply leading-self skills that they learn in the first forum. The PLP outcomes are presented by the individual participant during Forum 2.

Breakthrough Leadership Project

A team-based project that is designed to provide an opportunity for the participants to gain experience working within a professional team setting. The participating organizations and companies provide challenges to be assigned to participant teams at the end of Forum 2. The BLP is designed to enhance the participants’ capacity to work within teams and create real impacts in the assigned organization/company.

Besides engaging the participants in training modules and project development and management experiences, we also invite prominent Indonesian leaders to share their personal leadership paths. Speakers in the YLI National included: Luhut B. Pandjaitan (Coordinating Minister of Maritime and Investment Affairs of Indonesia), Ignasius Jonan (former Minister of Transportation of Indonesia), Gita Wirjawan (Former Minister of Trade), Didiek Hartantyo (President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia), Neneng Goenadri (Managing Director of Grab Indonesia), Pramoda Dei Sudarmo (Special Staff to the Minister of Education and Culture Republic of Indonesia), Catherine Hindra Sutjahyo (Chief Food Officer of Gojek), Tri Mumpuni (Executive Director of IBEKA), Martha Tilaar (Founder and Owner of Martha Tilaar Group), John Riady (Director of Lippo Group) and many others.

Info sessions and selection are usually conducted in January – March, while the Forums are usually scheduled between April and September. Annually the YLI National Program accepts 2.000+ applications and only selects around 60 – 70 top talents as the recipients of the program.
